Mislead by great reviews I was expecting something different
Madonna's vocal performance was dominated by recorded vocals due to its weakness. The uncomfortable heat inside the MET, M's endless obnoxious banter, and scripted shenanigans, as well as more-than-a-handful of weak songs, all contributed to the lackluster quality of the show. It played out like a very modern broadway show with incredible dancers, staging, and a DJ filling in for an orchestra or live band. Some high points included the brilliant performance of "Batuka" by the all-female percussionists (and live?), top-notch choreography, and the magical vibe and intensity of NYC's elaborate underground after-hours parties of the 1990s found in some of M's clubby numbers like "God Control."
